April 18-27th. SICK!!
I have a nasty sinus infection. I finally got
meds after thinking for a week that I could
fight it off on my own with rest and good
food. Nope. Give me drugs! I spent my entire
April vacation sleeping and feeling run down.
I ran a total of 7 miles on 3 runs that
were miserable and pathetic. The decision to bail on
TARC 50K was a no-brainer. 50K's are super tough
and I was in no shape to start one. It's now
Sunday the 28th and I'm feeling pretty good.
Ready to start running again. My body is stiff
from laying around so much.
Wednesday, April 17
10mi*/65min. Track workout with Andy (James and Boj).
1600-800-800-400-400-400.
(4:59,2:27,2:23,70,67,65).
600rest-400r-400r-200r-200r.
Ok workout. Felt sick again during the day
but not horrible. Chills and aches returned
after the workout. I'm definitely sick.
Tuesday, April 16
12mi/1:18 in Pisgah with Ferenc and Griffin.
Got sick after the run. Fever, chills and achy
all over. Crap.
Monday, April 15
Am:2mi w/kids at school. Lifted weights.
Pm:2mi w/track team. Feeling lazy after practice.
I should have run for real.
Sunday, April 14
7mi/47min in Pisgah with Griffin. Feeling
great. Nice 70 mile week with a decent hill workout,
2 lifting sessions and a solid long run.

Saturday, April 13
26mi/3:18 in Pisgah with Ferenc and his girls.
I needed a good long run if I'm going to
survive this 50K in 2 weeks. This was it. The trails
had an inch or two of slushy snow making for a
slippery run. The weather was beautiful and I
felt pretty good the whole way. I was hurting
a little climbing the ridge after 2:30 of
running. Refueled with burgers at Fyffe's house.
Friday, April 12
0mi. Nasty weather with snow, sleet and freezing
rain. Easy decision to bail once Ferenc and Najem
said they weren't coming out to run. Lifted weights.

10mi*/64min. Drummer Hill repeats with George,
Andy, Miller and Ferenc.

This was a tough day. I'm pleased that I stayed
consistent and stuck with it. I was a little
sore going into this and just tired. It was a
struggle. Ferenc looked like a damn mountain goat
kid just out there playing. He slaughtered
taints and was telling annoyingly happy
stories without breathing heavy while the
rest of us were suffering miserably, trying
to squeeze every precious second out of the
recovery jog. God I hate him!!! Bonked hard
on the cool down while watching Andy train

Am: 1mi with kids at school + circuits.
pm: 9mi/58min in Pisgah. Solo. Another
beautiful 60° day. Woodfrogs and Spring Peepers
out in full force. Trails 90% clear of snow and ice.
Herons are on the beaver pond. There are
comnon mergansers, canada geese, mallards and
wood ducks out on the pond too. Won't be long
til the beavers are splashing around. I never
saw the otters this year. Usually I see them
when the pond is all ice with a few open spots.
They'll pop up on the ice to rest or chomp
down a horned pout. I had a fox sparrow in
the yard and I saw a bald eagle soaring over
the recess field at school. I love spring!

Am: 2mi with kids at school. Lifted weights.
pm: 9mi/59min in Pisgah with Griffin.
Gorgeous day. 63°F and sunny. Trails 85% clear
of snow and ice. Started coaching track today.
My back is stiff from the long car ride. Lifting
should help.

Monday: 0mi. Sick.
Tuesday: 0mi. Sick.
Wednesday: 9mi*/59min. 8x400m with Andy at
KMS Track. (75,73,74,71,70,69,69,66)200 rest.
Thursday: 10mi/72min in Pisgah with Ferenc and the girls.
Friday: 7mi/47min in Pisgah with Griffin.
Saturday: 6mi/44min in Mendon Park in
Rochester, NY.
Sunday: 6mi/54min in Mendon Park with Jen.
Total: 38mi.

Sunday, March 31
0mi. I blew off Ferenc.
I was gonna run at 7am with him before
traveling for Easter but I over slept. I woke
up with a sore throat, achy body, and a nasty
head cold. Smartly pulled the plug on the run.
Not a good week. 3 days off. Sick. No speed workout.
No lifting. No hill sprints. I did get a long
run and a race in. Next week, get healthy and
start training again.
Saturday, March 30 Fast Friends
23mi*/2:30. I ran the Fast Friends 4.5mi road
race, AKA Andy's Race on Saturday. I knew I'd be traveling
on Easter so the plan was to get my long run
today at the race. I arrived early and ran
the course solo and then joined Mark for
another loop. We had 7min to get on the
line. We cut it close. I'd never do that
at a bigger race. MacKnight and Miller took
it out hard and I let them go and tucked in
behind Goupil. I passed him shortly before the
mile and ran solo the rest of the way. I
finished in 3rd in 24:28(5:27). This was my
slowest time of the 4 years at this race.
I've gotten slower every year. Here are my
miles: (5:18,5:27,5:23,5:31,2:46). Did I
mention that this is a challenging course?
3 mile cool down with a bunch of guys and
then 6 more miles with Mark after awards.
Beautiful day to be outside running!
